The Incredible Shrinking Man - Basement

Some perspective drawings of the basement, here Scott lives in a matchbox under the table at 1 inch tall. The character picks up the matchbox in a cafe when he was 3 foot tall, not knowing it will be his future home. The room is used for storage of unused stuff in boxes, dusty atmosphere with cobwebs dotted around. At this point, Scott has completely given up on life and want's to end it but can not get himself round to do it. He ends up making himself suffer even more with terrible thoughts running through his mind, e.g. how is he going to end it or will he rather let the spider eat him.

The Incredible Shrinking Man - Roof Top Cafe

This is the first complete perspective sketch of the Roof top Cafe, which is located on top of a sky scraper in the heart of New York City where Scott was 3 feet tall.

These are the complete digital images of the café from back and front. First, I created the place in SketchUp, chose the best angels and then took it further and finished it in Photoshop for better effect.

The Incredible Shrinking Man - Dining room

A perspective drawing of the joined living/dining room. Scott is both 6 feet and 6 inches tall in this room, requiring an execution of the set at 2 scales. The styling of the rooms is reflective of a present day, Western, middle-class, living space.

A Digital composite of Scott's POV from under a chair next to the dining table at 6 inches tall. Watching his (now) giant wife walking around the room looking for him, Scott's is full of loneliness and fear, feeling venerable and useless.

SketchUp visuals of the dining room in the evening with Scott 6 inches under the table. The top image is looking down on the character from his wife's perspective and the second is a vision from outside the doll's house of him.

The Incredible Shrinking Man - Living Room

Some perspective drawings of the living room where Scott is both 6 ft and 6 inches tall, requiring 2 scales. The room is designed to be a present day suburban dwelling. This provides visual difference for the audience when Scott takes residence in the dolls house(situated to the right of the drawing), which will be styled like a classically Victorian dolls house. This provides the viewers with context as the book's narrative isn't in chronological order.

The Incredible Shrinking Man - Model

A wireframe supports the plasticine model which captures Scott's despair as he grows smaller and smaller. The clothing has been made as his wife would have, using scraps of cloth from around the house. Scott has also collected and fashioned tools for survival from found objects. Paper clip grappling hooks, drawing pin spears accompany a range of his innovations. (Scale 1:10)

The Incredible Shrinking Man

Completed redesign of four key scenes from Richard Matheson's Novel, The Incredible Shrinking Man. Work included designing sets for main character at 6 feet, 3 feet, 6 inches and 1 inch. A combination of mixed media concept images, technical drawings, SketchUp models, scale models and digital visuals were used to bring the story to life. More work to follow in the coming weeks.
